1800's Padlock and a bullet

Short post......
Detected for an hour after work by some huge old Oaks along side what used to be a stagecoach road.
Found a neat 1800's padlock ("S & Co."), and this type of bullet was a first for me. It was ID'd in the what is it section by "The CannonGuy".
Thanks for looking,
MM

Re: 1800's Padlock and a bullet

Nice lock MM. Might clean up nicely with a bit of electrolysis. Looks like a silver match safe you have there. Is it sterling? Nice digs !

Thanks Jeff.
I'll hit it with some electrolysis next week. Yep, I think the match safe is sterling.

Re: 1800's Padlock and a bullet

the 3rd item in question looks like a piece that screwed onto the end of
a ram rod with an oil cloth patch over it and pushed down the barrel of a gun to clean it.
I have several new ones that I use on my muzzle loading rifle to clean it

Thanks Josh,
It's nice to find those locks with the keyhole covers still attached. :icon_thumleft: This is the most ornate one I've found so far.

Thanks for that ID Idaho. That is fantastic. I dug it very close to where I dug the bullet too.

Wow cool finds

Can't wait to see what the contents of the strong box it was keeping locked when you find it.

Cool luck.

I think the 3rd lock from the bottom at the following link will provide you with more information on the lock.

You nailed that one. Thank you. Hopefully mine will clean up like that after electrolysis. Great job!
