1800's picnic area - Revisted

these are a few pictures of picnic area from the 1800's. you can see the depressions in the area where the river floods through. I'm hoping to find a few good things.

a little farther to the east is an old indian village site, from before the land grab.
pictures will have to wait, the owner told me that there are wild dogs in the area (he has been chased and a couple of his calves have been killed) so he told me, if you want to md the site to bring my sidearm, so, I got out my S&W, I'm going to head back down there this weekend.

have a good one. Sniffer

Re: 1800's picnic area

Have fun...it looks like a great site. Be careful with those dogs.

Re: 1800's picnic area

Good luck, & be careful.
I walked up on some that had a rabbit in a downed hollow tree, they were all excited & barking, & they didn't notice me for a while, when they did luckily they all 'skedadled'.

Fossis.............

Re: 1800's picnic area

Looks like you need some one to cover your back. When it warms up I will be glad to do just that. :) Good luck on the site.

Good luck Sniffer! You may want to keep the earphone off one ear so you can hear your surroundings and the targets.

Well if you say so. But do I trust a guy that wears a garter? ;) ;)

Re: 1800's picnic area

Looks like a good salamander hunting spot in the spring.

What kind of gun do you use for that?? ::) ::)

That's a great area. My favorite spots like very similar to this. Good luck with your hunt. :)

Re: 1800's picnic area

WHITE MOLD that's a good one, don't they call that penicillin ?
as far as the dogs, the landowner gave me a choice between a club or a gun, Huh ????
I don't know about you all, but I don't anything with teeth and a bad attitude close enough that I could hit them with a club, besides, it would probably just make him real mad.

Burdie, after I do a little reconisance I'll give you a call and we'll go down and check it out.

Re: 1800's picnic area

I wouldn't worry about the dogs sniffer, we have had packs around here and if feral dogs see people they run. Unless they're a group of pitbulls. The gun would work nicely on them. ;) Most farmers have always got a "pack of wild dogs" that kill their animals ::) Usually just coyote or a mountain lion. Anyway, happy hunting. It looks full of promise!

Re: 1800's picnic area

Wild dogs can be dangerous. Sometimes a dog pack is even made up of fairly harmless farm dogs, whose personalities change when they get in the pack. Blast them.

Re: 1800's picnic area

Re: 1800's picnic area

I think like you do, nothing friendly about a pack of dogs. Three of us came across a pack that roamed the woods above an old junkyard. As we rounded a bend in the path, they stood there snarling, deep growls & ears flattened & it
was a standoff until one of us fired into the ground & they ran off. These dogs became more dangerous & were killing deer, so they had to be cleaned out.
Be careful of them & good luck.

Re: 1800's picnic area

well, I went down there. no sight of dogs, but, there is a cabin from the late 1800's still partially there.
I've arranged to get back down there in a couple of weeks
