Today I soldiered up with deep and ventured to the colonial era woods I've been digging. Was a slow start with flat buttons and other items. I didn't bring any drinking water and was getting tired so I started back to my truck. On the road back I swept the coil as I walked . Hit a nice 12 45 and wow out pops a 1820 capped quarter in awesome condition. First capped I've ever dug. A few feet away I dug a worn 1788 1/2 real. Also ended with a total of 8 flat buttons. Arrrrrrr I loves me silverrrrrr. Thanks for looking.

That Quarter's probably worth a couple grand.

Nice hit.

Hopefully this doesn't double post as my last response didn't show up. That coin is absolutely beautiful. Looks as though it was dropped in mint condition and it's worth a chunk of $$$. Great find!

Q tip with water ..This coins poppin. Some better pics. Can anyone give me an idea on the grade

Great finds! If your finding coins like that I would pound that spot!

Great finds guy.... Congrats to you buddy.

Wish you hadn't used a Q tip.... ultrasonics would have been nicer. We had a post here a couple days ago from a fellow who used a Q tip and sent it off to PCGS. It came back graded nicely but noted it was improperly cleaned.

Sorry to bear bad news....

Wow, great finds, congratulations!

That is one of the nicest dug coins I've ever seen. Incredible condition

Worth up to $1,400, if graded a no-problem EF, which is unlikely coming out of then ground.

Great find, very nice details, regardless of value!

TCK

<This post has been edited. For some reason, I initially took the coin to be a dime>

Well aint she sweet ! I'm thinking BANNER on period/condition /rarity - the quarter denomination shows up here a lot less than the half
for some reason . If the condition was lowballed to a VF 20 - you have a $500. coin - if it can make EF-40 , your looking at closer to $1500.
(I'm referencing a 2013 "Redbook" for my numbers ) Great Find ! I'd be camping on that spot for a while !

Nice!!That is one of the one's I have been after. Here recently I would be happy to find a wheat penny.Great find!If you where not already hooked I am sure you are now!nice reale too.

Nah it's not bad news at all..I see it like this....This silver coin has been in the dirt for say I dunno 150years. It's gonna have scratches and markings. To gently take q tip will not diminish the coin anymore than its already blemished. You have to do about 1/8 of the coin with a fresh q tip with water. Anymore the dirt with start to cause abrasions that are clearly visible. I have tried this and viewed under a microscope and have viewed for myself the effect. There is none. If I was going to bring it to a cleaned look I would ultrasonic. But in the end I have No intentions of selling this coin. So just getting the dirt off is not a problem at all for me.
