1820's New York State Seal "Excelsior" Flat Button
The weather warmed up this weekend so the ground was soft enough to dig this afternoon. Got out around three o'clock and my first hit was a solid 35 on the Minelab Safari. Was thinking it was going to be a Pepsi bottle cap or a Indian head but to my surprised a larger green disk popped out of the hole at around 5 inches. It was caked in dirt so I thought it was a plain flat button so I let it dry out and then about thirty minutes later I looked at it again and saw the eagle staring back at me. After I got home I started to toothpick the button and I see the word "Excelsior" and I got really excited. I think the back mark reads " Silver'd Surface Warranted", you can make out the word silver in the second picture. It is the second excelsior button from this site but the other one my brother found was a two piece from before the Civil War.
