1828 Counterstamped Large cent

I got out today and found a couple of keepers.

1828 counterstamped large cent with US all over it. I can't find anything on it. Any help would be appreciated.

I also found 4 musket balls, a 1918 merc and some buttons and buckles etc...

Looks like a DOT right after each letter of the U.S.
implying, there may be an early-day Federal sutler of some kind,
counter-stamping his change...

Hello! Very cool copper! I'd like to suggest/recommend a different cleaning method for your coppers than water and a toothbrush. You'd have much nicer results.
