1830's Bank of lower Canada token and potentially awesome what is it.

I found this token today. From what I read online it's from the late 1830's. Does anyone have any idea what the thing is with the weird design? I found it where I pulled the 1717 reale the other day. It strikes me as very old. Possibly a buckle? When I pulled it out of the ground, I thought it had the Tudor rose on it, but after cleaning it, it's clear that it's not.

I have no idea about the item. The coin, however, is a 1/2 cent, 'un sou' token from Lower Canada.
The legend should read: Agriculture and Commerce/ Bas Canada (copper and 27 mm dia.)

just a guess but the thing with the handle may have been an old stamp to press and seal the wax on letters

great token and some nice old buttons!
The ornate whatsit is unknown to me, Interesting though..
The 4 holes for attachment on the other item remind me of some type of wall hook?
Good Stuff, damn it's hot, we almost broke 3 digits at 99 yesterday,
I can't find any clear areas to swing out in the jungle :laughing7:

Great token. The 'what's it' looks like the cover of a key hole, possibly for a door. :icon_scratch:

The design on the "unknown" doesn't seem random to me. Someone out there has to recognize the symbols. The 3 dots over the lines reminds me of one of the symbols used in the Zodiac Killers Halloween card.

O am not too sure if I agree. I find similar looking things from time to time. Just a design IMO.

Here is a keyhole I found a few years back with a similar design. I am sure mine is Victorian era, although yours appears quite a bit older:

You could be right, but something in my gut tells me otherwise. I feel like I've seen that symbol in the middle somewhere before (not the Zodiac card), I just can't put my finger on it.

Can you post a keyhole that's similar?

no sorry, I don't mind pointing in the right direction & I don't often spend much time googling unless it's my own object. Believe me, if I had a site on my fingertips I would, or if in a book, I would reference for you. But I'm sure someone will. The broken bit off the top is were a possible loop came off.

Yep...broken bit is where the pivot screw would have been. Nice finds, like the Sou!

Re: 1830's Bank of lower Canada token and potentially awesome what is it.

I found a Montreal Un Sou (one cent) token 2 years ago, they are also known as "Bouquet Tokens".My research led me that these were used as currency formally before Canada started making canadian coins. Some designs were only made a couple of years.Mine was valued at around $150 dollars. It is not a lower canada coin as these were made for the Ontario area.Montreal were area specific to the Quebec area. They were made around 1837.

There were also upper canada ones as well as Nova Scotia too.
