I found this last night in a old house yard and I can't find anything similar to it online at all. I know there was lots of medals etc. made for her 60th jubilee but has anyone ever seen anything like this? This was just a rinse in water so would anyone clean it any further?
Thanks for looking! [emoji2]

Very cool relic recovery! :occasion14:

Excellent find, I've never seen one like that. I would just dry brush with a soft toothbrush, and maybe toothpick any remaining junk off. I like the light to dark contrast so you can see what it is.

Hello K1DDO1979. That is one great find and in excellent shape too...I would be very happy with that in my collection.

Cleaning is sometimes a matter of preference, but I agree with J.Cache, it's got a nice patina the way it is. You may want to put a bit a of olive oil on it, try a drop or two on the back first to see if you like it.

Thanks for the post and Good Luck. C9

Depends on what sort of result you're after. If you put oil on it you will lose all contrast and therefore a lot of detail. For example I recently found a KGIII that looked great after brushing, tooth picking and a little "forehead oil" on the relief. I decided to soak the coun in mineral oil and wished that I hadn't.

Like I said it depends on how you want it to look. This should give a good comparison of the two techniques.

I might do a little tooth picking and that's it. I took a look at it again and it's pretty much fine as it is! [emoji106]

That is sweet,, is there any evidence of a pin mounting on the back. I don't see any holes or an eye where a chain would be attached for wearing. Do you think that medallion was attached to anything so that it could be worn?

No evidence of anything on back. Perfectly smooth. A friend of mine thought it may have fit into another piece to be worn but there is nothing to show that. I think maybe it had a little stand to be propped up? Something sort of like this maybe?...

I did a light tooth brushing under water then let it dry. The patina is good on it. It's also pretty solid feeling for its size. Look better now or worse???

Hello again K1DDO1979. That is an outstanding find just the way it is. I would leave it be. C9

It's actually in pretty good shape. There is less contrast now, but still looks good due to the details being so sharp. Nice job, I like that thing!

Nice old relic . I love the endless variety of stuff that comes out of the ground

Nice job! I like the way it looks now better. Don't do anything else-leave it as is. No oil.

Beautiful relic find. Congratulations on finding that one. Also a great job of not over cleaning.

Even though there is no sign of attachments on mine the closest I can find would be these...
