1837 Half Penny & 2/3 of a British Officer's Breastplate!

I detected here for 3hrs yesterday and found an almost complete British breastplate. This one hit in the usual range of 89 – 91 at 6” on the up-slope of a hill. The 1837 Upper Canada Half Penny Token came next at 91 – 92 on the VDI at 8” deep; this site just keeps on giving! :laughing7: I couldn’t have asked for a nicer Christmas present then to find my fifth martingale/breastplate at this site. Here’s hoping I can locate the missing ‘Victorian Crown’ from this piece when I return tomorrow? :icon_scratch:

Hope you all had a great Christmas and as usual thanks for looking!
Dave

Congrats on #5 and the half penny! Looks like the weather is going to be pretty nice tomorrow once again. Are those tree ID # plates you've been getting?

Congrats on the nice saves. They are very cool

Woohoo! Congrats Dave on a magnificent find(s)!! Good luck in finding the missing piece!!!

Larry

I bet you recognize those plates as soon as you see them in the dirt now! That field looks huge Dave. Congrats. Better get it while you can. Winter isn't going to wait much longer.

Really nice finds. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome find, you have a nice place to hunt.IMG_5692.webp Here are my finds from today.

Thanks very much Jim!
I honestly don't know, they could be hydro pole ID tags or tree tags.
Maybe there was a tree clearing project on this site in the 1920's, I found them in the same general area as the Isaac Campbell loops? :icon_scratch:

I'd like to get back this afternoon, but it'll probably have to wait till Sunday.
Dave

Nice digs

Thanks Mack! :icon_thumright:

I went back yesterday, but with no luck... I'll post the finds later this morning.

I recognize them more by the sound and numbers, these pieces are the only metals I find here that come in at 89 - 91.

The field is huge, although the further afield I wander the fewer signals there are.

I'll probably get back on Sunday morning for what will likely be my final hunt of the year.

Hope you're still getting out,
Dave

You've got some 'real history' to detect on the East Coast.

I think you're on to something they're ID tags for the IC Loops, get digging...:laughing7:

It's good you can still dig Dave, this weather is fine by me....wouldn't bother me if I NEVER saw snow again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:laughing7:

GOD Bless

Chris

Wonder if that gives you five banner finds, I mean if you found a tree coin then found four more, four different times out, they would be banner finds also? Right? Got my vote.
Nice finds and pix Dave, congrats!

I'd be happy just to find an IC hook Jim!
I feel the style of number font used on these aluminum ID tags is an older style not seen since at least the 1920's. :icon_scratch:

Are you in the north country or back on the island now?
Dave

Thanks for your post Chris!
Hopefully there won't be another Nor'easter in your area this winter.

Keep digging for as long as you can my friend! :laughing7:

If only eh Brad!
I made the Banner with the first plate I found in August and I still consider that one my sweetest find!

Now that I've found 6 of these pieces, interest in them by the Tnet membership definitely seems to have waned over the past 5 months. :dontknow:
That's what happens when relics go from rare to my finding one every few weeks! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Great looking finds.

What are the plates with the numbers on them?

Great looking finds.

I hear you MsBB and I certainly agree! :laughing7:
I've actually found 6 of these plates this year... 4 breastplates, 1 bit boss plate & 1 knapsack plate.
The latest one is a breastplate. The first one I found at a site in Eastern Ontario (that one made the Banner), the last 5 came from this site northeast of Toronto.

Thanks for your interest,
Dave

North of the Limestone Dave, actually I went out for a couple of hours detecting today. :icon_scratch: Just got tired of the building project and digging some older dirt felt appealing this afternoon at the back of our property. Got a few things like cane band thingy, lrg. clock frame with a bunch of gears, found a large trash pit that runs out into the bay. It's from the area where I got the 1830 half dime & 1853 quarter in the spring, there was a warehouse in the mid 1800's and a ferry landing was there also.
