I went back for a third look today with my small coil. I previously have found a pocket watch, 1834 LC, and a similar period locket. I got out of work late so I had about 15 minutes to hunt, so I went to this site instead of another site I would have hit had I more time. Anyway, I had a hit by it was iron-bound with only a few highs. 8-46, 29-48, 30-32, 30-46, but I dug that sucker.

At the bottom of the hole was a Largie lying on a huge nail. So long and close in fact, that some of the iron is still stuck to the LC (above "states")! I pinpointed again and pulled out another #16 nail! Thank you, CTX for the clarity. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429047588.376973.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429047601.130412.webp

That's a nice lc, I wonder what knicked it like that, who cares though any day ya can dig an 1830s coin is a good day in my books!

Nice find Steve..
Is it a 51?

Very nice finds! I would love to find a LC!

Very nice. The nick appears to have been there for many years too. By the looks of the corrosion.

I would call that very good condition even with the nick in it. I have never hunted for less than 30 minutes and even that was only 1 time. If finds like that happened every short hunt, I would never sweat lol.

I was relieved to see it was an old nick. It almost looked like it was an attempted clipping. The opposing grooves are slightly offset. Did they still cut cents in the 1850's?

Love the deep green color of the patina on that puppy. Congrats on the LC.

That thing has great detail, nice score

A few hours is tough to come by with two little ones, a full time job, a a loooong honey-do list. I can usually get 45 minutes after work.

Thanks Evo. It came out looking real nice. That's great news for me after a few rough ones.

Thanks J. If only they could all come out of the dirt so sweet .

Ok I missed the 51, thought it was a 30 something

The 1834 was the one I found last week about 5-6' away. I missed it two times with my 11" coil, and it was still rough with the 6" coil

Great looking LC!!

I only found one ever last year, now this year I think it's 8. All mine are toasted?? I hate the soil around here...

Very nice find Scrappy! The reverse is so smooth and green! Good show.
