Its 22 degrees out at 6:30 a.m. Am I staying home ? I think not !! Put on a few coats and head out the door. Back to my good luck park where they have been doing dirt renovations. I'm 2 hours into the hunt with nothing but clad, when I decide to head into the wooded area. Could it be ? As I approach the area, I see a tractor path that has been cut thru going up the hill. Yes !! Freshly turned up dirt ! They cut a path where they poured a new concrete pad for another park bench. Hit this little wooded section (pic included) for about 5 minutes when the great sound of a coin came thru on my Minelab SE Pro. Dug thru a little stubborn frozen dirt, and out popped this 1853 Large Cent. Shes a little dirty in the pic, but cleaned up real nice, and has very good detail. She is currently bathing in her olive oil. Will pull her out of the bath in a week or two. Guess I'm going back for a 9th weekend this upcoming Sunday. This park has been a Fall blessing ! I have hunted this place on and off for 20 years, without many good finds, that is until they started the dirt work 3 months ago. Its a whole new world. Er, I mean park ! :icon_thumleft:

Excellent condition on that Large copper. :occasion14:

nice, that thing is a beauty. Olive oil is acidic and will damage that beauty of a patina please take it out. Then washing it carefully and go buy yourself some microcrystaline wax. Wont damage the coin

Congratulations...a lot of detail on that large cent! It’s a nice one!

Love the old coppers, congratulations! :occasion14:

Great job!!

Rudy

I'll bet things heated up fast when you spotted that beauty. Congratulations!

Very nice LC. That has some meat on it.

Best of luck to you sir!

Nice save, Trezure...she is gorgeous! I agree with TP, I'd pull her from her bath..olive oil has pulled remaining patina from a couple I was trying to restore..I've had better luck with coin cleaning pencils and a lot of patience. Then apply some wax. Keep hitting that plowed dirt...Ddf

sick. Just plain sick.

PS: Love the site pix, and the in-situ-reveal pix. Doesn't mean I believe you found it, but ... just sayin' ! :tongue3:

Thanks. I actually took the pic to send to my detecting partner who was not with me at the time, but knew the area I was going to search. It was a hillside where the tractor pushed dirt to make a path so they could pour a new slab for a park bench. You can see the slab about half way up the hillside, its covered with some plastic. I had just stumbled on this hillside at the back side of the park. I have been making some great coin finds at this park over the last 8 weeks. I know many others post pics of their sites, and thought I would do the same for a change. Ron

Fortune Favors the Brave!!! Well done not allowing some measly below freezing temperatures deter you from the HUNT!!!
