I'm in the process of writing the full-on story for the day chock full of pics (stay tuned), but at the 9.5 hour mark (yes, long day of digging!) I unearthed this little beauty. Best find of the day... So far I've just soaked in mild soapy water for 10 minutes, but I bit terrified of cleaning further, even though I want to. Got any tips? Throw 'em my way. I haven't conceded that the backside is toasted, but it may be. I'll update the thread when I write the full story. Lots of lessons learned as NJLargeCent and I unearthed a LOT of stuff. Record finds when it comes to pull tabs and rusty nails :)

While 1857 is great, 1856 would have been inSANE!

Nice find, I found two flying eagles a 58 and cant read date on the other. my luck thats the 56 Im after

Oooh... the 1856, even if horrible it's still worth a lot! Have you tried the olive oil soak? But it in for a few weeks and see what happens.

Yup! With the 350 Ace. I had just switched back to it after using the CZ-21 in the pouring rain, but new to that machine, I wasn't confident in my ground balancing since the soil was so metal rich. Although my pinpoints were pretty accurate that day, this last hole was not. I dug and dug and the hole was empty. Re-scanned to find I was 2 inches off to the left. So I dug again and there it was... only about 4-5 inches or so. Thought at first it was a Lincoln till further inspection.

If you want to read the hole story of the day with lots more pics and NJLargeCent's finds, check out Identified Flying Object | Treasure Detectors

BTW, let me just add I LOVE the Ace 350. NJLargeCent has an ATPro which has more in-depth identification, but my 350 hasn't let me down yet!

yeah im learning this 350 of mine a bit more each time out, the first day i had it i wanted to wrap it around a tree, but ive pulled in some nice finds since then, and 1870 IH, 1904 IH, 1943 merc, 62 and 64 rosie, 53 washington, and about 60 wheaties, my pinpointing needs work though, i sometimes think im directly over the target only to find im about 2 inches or so off:icon_scratch: oh well, ill chalk that up to lack of experience..

I feel your pain. I think it's the DD coil that's hard to adjust to. There's 2 things I'm doing that have really helped my pinpointing:

1. Combine techniques: not only using the traditional method, but also dragging the coil back slowly once I hit my highest tone until the noise stops. I do this forward as well, to confirm my spot. I also hit it from multiple directions. I'll find a video that shows this technique.

2. I dig bigger plugs. Not only does this increase my area to find the target, but it's also I've found it easier to patch the hole. I dig sometimes as big as a foot radius and gently peel back the grass layer. Then when I've retrieved the find, fill back the dirt, and then place the grass patch to where it was. Rub it around and blend... boom. Never know I was there! Plus, this prevents me from digging extra holes side by side if my pinpoint is off.

I'm having a difficult time finding the actual video I watched, but this one around the one minute mark shows the drag technique I incorporate. HOwever, you can see how his shuts off when it's still a couple inches away from the tip! So, dig bigger holes ;)

Pin pointing looks like a pain in the a$$ with that detector.

Yeah, it's the one thing about the 350 I'm not stoked about. Again, bigger holes helps. Tomorrow I'll compare with NJLargeCent's AT Pro as it also has a double D coil.

Does it come with a smaller concentric coil?

No, it didn't. But that may be a good upgrade at some time. Even if not smaller, definitely round.

do u know much about ths sniper coil for the 350?, i read a little about it and seems like a good coil for junky areas

I don't know anything about it. I will check it out.

NJLargeCent and I are on our way back to this property now ... Wish us luck over the next 8 hours!

Be careful, it's as hot as a fox in a forest fire. I just got back from a AM hunt. Brutal!!!

That flying eagle is not an everyday find. I got one the same year as yours. Well done!

Yeah. We are troopers. Just finished 5th hour. 2 more to go. Will post finds later.

Cjon, for the sniper coil, it looks nice, but I think I'd want to investigate something a tad bigger for more coverage. Most of the land I hit is flat without obstacles. Some of the bigger ones are pricey though.
