Can anyone tell me if this is real? Its lighter than its suppost to by over a gram. I checked rim but i cant find a seam. It has a little magnetic material in it because i passed it over a small super magnet. The actual color of the metal is greyish. like a worn down 1943 Nickel. Im pretty sure this is fake but i need someone to confirm and tell me what its made out of. :help:

It looks just fine to me, if it is dug. I have dug silvers that were very gray in color before. But I've also seen pewter counterfeits made back then. I think the old counterfeits are a better find than the silver ones.

Either way, it's a darned cool find, and it would've circulated just the same in the CW era.

Best Wishes,

Great find and great post. I am no expert but I believe your coin is silver. By coincidence the only seated coin I have found was also an 1858 quarter, found last summer. The gray coloring and pebbliness of the obverse surface of your coin is identical to mine. However, the reverse of my coin has a more typical silver surface. I'm guessing this side of the coin was face down in the ground. My coin rang up silver with an 80+ VDI.

Check out an 1858 found 7 days ago . Scroll down to ......Last Lost Coins for 2010 Found at Mill Site * Update 12-16 :icon_scratch: may help , may not . Looks like the real deal . Merry Christmas
