Greetings fellow T Netters. Hope you are all enjoying the spring hunting season.
I went back and pounded the bean field for about 9 more hours and found my first Fatty.
It was in surprisingly good shape with very little green on it.
I had to scrub it with some ultrabrite toothpaste to make the date readable.
The button back says Rich orange colour----No mfg name.
The part of a disc with the wire on the back is a mystery--Any ID help is appreciated.
Best luck to all and thanks for looking. Merf

great pics merf ! and i'm GREEN with envy here  excellent finds congrats :icon_sunny:

A couple nice coins and relics Merf. :) My son has found a fatty but not me.

Are there many targets in that field? Hunting a bean field for 9 hours would drive me crazy unless I was finding stuff.

A lot of iron targets Bob---Thousands.
It is the site of a farmstead from 1870 so what targets are there are quite old.

hey send me a link/pm to that detector you were using :icon_scratch:

I havent found one without the shield, but I've dug a few of the early 1860's. Nice finds from that field, congratulations.

Nice job on the fatty Merf! The oldest IH I've found is 1864. Your site pictures are always breathtaking. Keep it up.

Nice finds!  I've never found the 1859--and it is a pretty coin.  I think the round disc with the wire attachment might be a bridle rosette--if the attachment comes from the back of it and not the side.  It should measure around 2 inches in diameter, give or take.  Here's an example of the back of one--to show the attachment--but I know I've seen one of the same style on this forum before...

Any ideas about the little round piece with the milk glass in it?  My buddy found one with black glass in it this weekend at a site from roughly the same era as yours.

That's a great variety of finds there, Merf--and some outstanding photos.  I like the old brass key you found a great deal.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Merf,
Always a pleasure to see your posts. We're almost guaranteed to see some 1800's coins, and you pulled through once again. Very nice digs.

Great finds and FANTASTIC pics! Love the (what looks like a) Sandborn map background :)

Thanks Buckleboy-----It is just under 2 inches wide---Here is a pic of the back. The wire broke off and I showed it sticking out the side in the pic but it fastens to the back. The milk glass thing looks like maybe it clipped onto something.
Here is a pic of the back of it also.

Thank you for the additional photos, Merf. I'm almost positive that's a rosette. I'll take a look at my friend's find and see if it is similar to yours. Then I have to figure out what on earth they are...

Buckleboy
