Just got back from digging some cellar holes with SMS88 today. Nice day in the North East today after all that rain we had Sat.
My first Nova Scotia Large Cent. I dated the piece of pottery to 1906 + http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/m/maddock.html

WOW! that Nova Scotia penny is in excellent condition. We get the occasional one around here (Nova Scotia), but I've never found one in that good of condition. Nice find!

I like that coin. Very nice detail. Congrats.

That is a beautiful coin, Earthworks! WTG! Thanks for posting.

Those are some cool finds. I need to find some celler holes!

Nice finds.
I don't yet have the patience to dig a cellar.
Maybe one day.

Nice job, dude. That's a good looking coin. Glad to know you can find something on your own, that you don't need my help with finding everything. :-)

Beautiful LC there!

That large cent is awesome!

Great condition on the NS LC...I've dug a few in that condition but not many!

Some very nice digs. Looks like a very old area. Those lamp parts look great too!

Super coin, and some great finds!

VERY COOL FIND, THE LARGE CENT ALMOST LOOKS SILVER. WHAT IS ITS COMPOSITION..............PACO

Hey Paco: I think its Bronze.

In the 1830's the copper glut was aggravated by locally produced pieces of poor quality particularly in Lower Canada. The copper problem in Nova Scotia was solved through the issue of official tokens by the provincial Government. The penny and half penny produced between 1823 and 1843 were ordered without the knowledge or approval of the English government. In Lower Canada several Montreal "banks sous" were issued to drive the poor Copper from circulation. Eventually they succeeded. In Nova Scotia the coins were struck in bronze instead of copper.
