Went for a 2 hour after work hunt at my new permission to clear my head after a hard stressful day at work. Some junk, bullet casings, shot gun shell butts, ox shoe, and then came what I thought was an Indian-head penny, VDI was more like a Lincoln penny on the DEUS, 87 instead of 83/84. So I looked at it twice then I noticed Army and Navy (not One Cent)... Cool I thought [emoji41]

Well it's a first for me finding a Civil War token, happy day, head still ain't clear but that will never happen LOL.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks for your reply, detecting is a great relaxing hobby... It did clear my head tonight for a while and I'm excited . [emoji2]

Great piece of American history, congratulations! :occasion14:

Congrats on a really great token, that thing is super cool

Awesome CW token. Congrats! The only thing I can bet on when it comes to tokens is that if a token comes in two versions (one with a date and one without) I will always find the dateless version. Sweet that you got one with the date.

Tokens are at the top of my list as great finds, yours is wonderful, especially since you can read the date.

Never seen one. Good job! [emoji106]

These small cent - sized tokens served as emergency "money " during the small change shortage of
1862 - 1865
Congrats

Kevin thank you so much for taking the time finding and posting information regarding the token. I was wondering why they were made. [emoji3]

I was reading this from Wikipedia: " It is estimated that by 1864, there were 25,000,000 Civil War tokens (nearly all redeemable for one cent) in circulation, consisting of approximately 7,000–8,000 varieties."

Wow that's a lot of tokens and a lot of varieties!
