Hi guys, hope your getting a chance to get a few more digs in before burrrr more cold days set in. I hit the woods this early morning found some clad. Gave up for a while, I've never find anything great wood hunting. I ran some errands and found myself by a wooded spot. I seen on old maps that a old farm house once was there. I gave it another try swinging the coil. I'm very glad I did. I found a Two Cent Piece 1865. Man did the feel great finally finding something in the woods.
The coin was about six to eight inches down. The signal was all over penny, dime strange signal. I'll definitely hit this spot again, hope to find something good.

Any ideas on how to get the bumps or pit marks off this coin?

Sweet 2 center...

Leave it be it gives it character.....just my 2 cents worth.... ;D ;D ;D

That is a coin on my long wish list.....

I've gotten a few of them also in years past and they were likewise beaten up by mama earth. If the peroxide bath doesn't work, get that dremel tool with the wire brush going, or not....

Nice find!

I would definitely NOT try to clean it! Especially if it's your first 2 center.

I had similar feelings when I found my first indian, and first canadian large cent and boy did I wreck them.

Congrats on an awexome coin and find in the woods!

BIG congrats on that 2-center  Excellent find!!

The first couple of times I hunted the woods I kept asking myself
"Why the #%@k am I doing this!". . . then I found my first Barber
Dime near a large tree. . . that settled it, I was hooked :icon_pirat:

Sweet!! Have yet to find one..

CONGRATS ON FINDING A 2 CENTER , WTG !! :headbang:

congrats!!! nice detail

Nice coin, buddy! Yeah, I think you're pretty much stuck with those pits, they work their way into the coin so you can't really wash them away. Leave it just the way it is, it looks great.

That's the way the woods are. You can hunt all day and find nothing but junk, but man, when you find an old coin, what a great feeling! Definitely a unique feeling, a feeling unlike unearthing an old coin from the turf.

Thanks for the feedback guys. This is my first Two Cent so I will leave the coin just like it is. It is cool to see what 100 years or more of hiding in the ground does to a coin.

Nice detail on that 2 center! After digging my '65 Indian, I dug every crappy signal in the area hoping for a 2 cent, but no luck..
