Got back to my favourite field on Sunday for 3hrs and found some more bits and pieces. :laughing7: Finally found my first silver coin of the year, it's an 1872 Silver Quarter! I then found a flat button with the loop intact, it's marked CALLERY & Co. Treble Gilt, Warranted. I also found a brass toe-tap, another IC Loop and a flattened crotal bell.

Using a jewelers loop I noticed the bell was marked C & AGb around the top! Wouldn't you know it, the first crotal bell I find with the makers marks and it's been squished! :BangHead:

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend!
Dave

PS. All the glass and pottery came from a site I only had time to do a field-walk in yesterday on the drive home. Weather permitting, I hope to detect it today! :icon_thumright:

So....why aren't you there now??:laughing7:

GOD Bless

Sweet Victoria quarter! Looks like it's in very good condition too! That's from the height of the empire. Really cool history taking place at that time.

Dave, finding a squished one is still better than finding none, especially when finding silver and a beautiful intact flat button. Nice job!

Nice 3 hr hunt Dave! Well done on the Vickie quarter and getting your first bell, too bad it's had some damage but you got one and I bet you were happy to see it in the dirt! Any plans of cleaning up the silver Dave?

Sweet hunt!!

Your hunt sounds like my hunt the other day, your silver quarter is a lot older though. Lol I found a bell, flat button and 36 Washington.
You say your Crotal bell is smashed, looks pretty good to me. The bells I've found are a little bent but, all still have the pea clapper and still ring. I'd take a bell in that shape any day.

I'd be all over that place.

That's amazing! That silver quarter is 143 years old! Those older Canadian silver coins like the one you found a quite rare out here on the west coast. I've never seen
a Queen Vitoria variety before. Awesome find!

Silver quarter, buttons, and bell! Awesome! Congrats!

I hear you Chris!
I'll post my finds from there later this evening.

Finding anything with Queen Victoria or anything related to here reign are my favourite relics to find! :occasion14:
She was much loved here in Canada... hence our Victoria Day Holiday here in Canada in honour of her May 24th birthday.
Dave

Very nice silver!

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

Thanks very much Jim! :icon_thumright:
No plans on cleaning the quarter as she's pretty toasty, might send her for a run in the tumbler.

Any thoughts? :icon_scratch:

I love finding these early crotal bells as opposed to the later brass horse bells.
These were usually cast in England, then exported over to Canada for resale.

I've probably found 10 - 12 of this type over the past 4 years, but this is the first with the makers initials on it! :o

Thanks very much for your post Mike!
I never thought about how old this one really is, in reality, this is the oldest silver I've found in the pat 4 years.
I know you have a lot of history with the Spanish in California, it's only a matter of time until you find a Spanish Real! :occasion14:

Silver quarter, buttons, and bell! Awesome! Congrats!
Thanks MsBB! :hello:

Best of luck to you,
Dave

I'll trade you all the silver quarters I've ever found and ever will find for one of those beautiful spoons you found Abe! :occasion14:

Thanks very much Jim! :icon_thumright:

Dave

Lemon juice, than there's the baking soda and water trick, or spit and tin foil is a favourite that's if you don't mind the bad fart smell. :laughing7:

Awesome Victorian silver!!

Very nice finds. Congrats on the silver coin! Good luck out there!

Neat little Crotal id say that's a pretty cool find even squashed ,vanzutphen

Nice job! Can you show us a pic of the maker's mark on the bell? I found a broken petal bell, but the piece had a lovely inscription from the manufacturer. Broken, squished, whatever for a bell just adds character.

Good silver Dave!

Wow, for your 1st silver coin of the year you sure got a nice one!!! If I ever find a silver coin that old, I hope I find it at the end of my hunt, because otherwise it would ruin my hunt, I'd be too busy staring at it and holding it to do any more hunting! Lots if other nice finds, great hunt!!!
