Today I got a couple of hours hunting in my colonial site in the woods. I've found some King George II coppers in my day and four Draped Bust cents but have not found any early silver aside from a 1770's 1 Real. It's been on my mind especially after seeing the recent Flowing Hair Dime Banner find posted here. So I had a moment of excitement today unearthing a silver dime a few yards from where I found a 1754 KG II halfpence last week. But no such luck. The 1873 is a nice consolation prize. I've seen many projectiles and casings in these woods spanning musket balls to 1870's Winchester all brass 12 gauge and various 1800's lever action rifles. But this is a weird one I would appreciate some help with ID. No rifling, slightly taped inward at base, heavy copper and solid inside to the rim line.

Never seen a bullet that looked like that. I almost reminds me more of a tool tip of some sort more than it does a bullet. Gary

Congrats on the stuff! 1800's silver is always a great thing to see in the hole! I love the seated dimes!

The more I look at the bullet-like object the more I think it is a gun related tool. Seems to be dense hardened steel. Would be interesting to put a micrometer on it to see if it matches a bore. I really haven't found anything dating past a 1912 Barber Dime in this spot.
