I dug this today. Sadly it's not in very good condition:( is there anything I should know about it? My best guess is that it says 1883 and not 1888, but that's up for debate. Thanks!

Congratulations on the seated dime. That is an awesome find. Keep after it.

Nice dime, congratulations. It's tough to find seated coins.

Looks like it was found in salt water, still a good find...congrats...

Congrats. 1883 for sure. I haven't found a seated in about 2 years. I found 3 almost back to back in 2012.

I agree with 1883. And I agree that seated silver coins are tough to find in PA. I find it easier to find Spanish silver from the 1700s than Seated Silver from the 1800s!

That's a big 10-4 Steve. I doubt I've dug more than 15-20 seated coins, and only 2 bust silvers, but 165 colonial silvers. Very strange indeed, but a lot has to do with the types of sites we hunt. Many of the colonial spots I dig at were gone before 1800 which validates why the later silver coins are just not there.

BTW - nice find Miss Iron Maiden!

Thank you much. Are they usually in this rough of shape?

No, not at all. I have found a couple that looked like yours or worse, but the large majority are in good condition with nice detail, but may need a little light electrolysis to remove some of the black tarnish you sometimes see on silver.

Keep detecting that place you found the seated dime, you might find a seated quarted. Come to think of it, I dont think I ever found a seated coin unless it was a bay beach find.

great find ! I just found my first(and second) last week. There's definitely more there, just need to put the coil in the right spot. HH

That's so freakin awesome!!

Nice find! I'm still looking for my silver ANYTHING!!!

I love finding Seated coins.....and for some reason they are more plentiful here in Texas than Standing Liberty quarters or Walking Liberty halves, at least for me anyways. Congrats, and I hope it is the first of many to come!

Great find MIM! I have yet to find one. I definitely see 1883 also! Good luck on your next hunt there.

Great find 1883 seated, I would do cartwheels (quite a feat) if I found anything seated! Congrats girl!

I also found neArby a standing Liberty. 1923 we determined I believe, date was missing. It's in the horse field behind my house . I been detecting it for 2 years! I only find the coins after a good rain. There had been some sort of building there, I determine from the pile of rocks. I have been trying for years to get permission to detect closer to tbe very old farmhouse that I'm sure the pile of rocks once belonged to.. It's way tucked back and every time I pull down tbe long drive my truck gets surrounded by pit bulls and nobody ever comes out! I tried getting out once... And I got politely but sternly told to not step one more foot closer to that front porch , by one of the Pitts .. Lol
