YEAH SMALL COIL BIG EGO! LOL

You definitely hit the jackpot! :notworthy: :occasion18: :toothy4: I respect very much the approach the purists have about not cleaning old coins, though I carefully cleaned my Peace Silver dollar as I plan to wear it. I think either no cleaning or careful cleaning is the best way to go. And so that the purists can sleep well at night, they can remind themselves that great sculptures and great paintings are often carefully restored by experts to bring out their former beauty, color & clarity. Each to his own! Andi

I'm pretty sure he can do what he wants with the finds... Crusader makes a good point but ultimately its his to do as he pleases the above comment is not welcome in my book

True enough, but destroying the potential value of your find before you even know what it is can also show a lack of intelligence, or at least knowledge--and it also opens one up to a fecal storm of ridicule on THing forums.

Yes, it was his to clean/destroy as he pleased, but Cru has his best interests at in mind, and so do I, and so we promote education and good cleaning methods, rather than the belligerent attitude of "it's mine and I'll do what I want with it."

That said, Great finds there. The dime is killer of course, and the heel plate is a very nice find. The figural ones are not at all easy to dig. I have dug exactly one (star shaped cut-out) out of hundreds of heel plates I have dug.

Best Wishes,

Buck

True I do have his best interests in mind. I know that sick feeling well after a few stupid cleans/mends myself. I can only imagine his feeling if we told him he had wiped off $2000. Even if, he is like me & never sells, that would hurt.

Oh boy would I love to be there for that one. Haaaahaaaaahaa. Flush 2k down the drain. Mattysee finds killer relics but he can't wait to attack them with his wire brush. It's like a disease Before the wire brush he stole hot sauce packets from taco bell.

i like bringing back a find to as close as original as possible, what is patina to you is dirt to me, therefore i clean my finds to please my eyes, not collecters. (no ignorance) if it was about money id do things different, anyway early bird gets the deep target happy hunting!

I tired not to bring money into this, as it has little meaning to me, but it was trying to refect the 'damage' you could cause to a historic piece. History has value, very rare unknown items even more.
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to convince you to change & I don't want to troll your great post. So I will finish with; you are the custodian of these pieces & they will last longer than you, so do your best to keep them in no worse condition than when you found them. No one in the Museum or any other field of acedemic work would agree that a stable patination is dirt.
I will just have to remember to close my eyes when I open your posts or the pain might over come me. HH
