Picked this up at the an antique store. I emailed the pewter society to help identify its markings. They responded very quickly. I thought it was pretty neat find!
"This was made by Robert Sadler working next door to The Packhorse, Pilgrim Street, in Newcastle upon Tyne 1734 to 1778. It carries his detrited touch and distinctive London label. Provincial pewterers often used London label to imply quality.
It is probably a marriage plate with the triad R over RC when a man with a Christian name beginning with R married a woman with Christian name beginning with C. Their surname began with R. This was a common custom in the 17th and early 18th centuries in England."
