Great find! Definitely looks like something from the late 17th or 18th century. Congrats!

Excellent find !!!!!

Very nice piece, congratulations! :occasion14:

I would say 18th century. You won't have patina like that unless it has been in the ground for some time.

Amazing great job!!!!!!

Yes the sideway loop is also a correct, very abundant relic to find in Mexico, yet here u don't see them often.

Nice find! :icon_thumleft: Very cool!

Great find.Congrats

Really Cool
Just realized it was Jesus and Mary...by zooming the thorns...

You're in the right geographic area for such a find; it certainly be 18th century, even early 18th century. Such an early find would be rare in New England and other parts of the East Coast. Early Protestant beliefs included the prohibition of religious images - no stained glass windows to be found in the old meetings houses for sure. But Maryland was settled by Catholics who venerated such relics and other religious objects. Not trying to start a religious discussion - just noting some colonial history that may relate to this very cool find. Congrats. :icon_thumright:

Some of Marylands first settlers were Catholic but its founders welcomed Protestants and I believe they in fact comprised the majority of the earliest settlers. There were Virginians already settled on Kent Island at the founding of the Maryland colony and this led to a lot of conflict in Marylands earliest beginnings. Hard to say how this got in this field as I dont think there were many Catholics in Maryland especially on the Eastern Shore but your right definitely more around here than elsewhere in the colonies

I would guess this was dropped around 1790(medallion itself could be much older). In 1790, the Catholic population of the US was less than 1% of the total of 3.9 million. Maryland itself had around half of the estimated 35,000. Good reason why these never turn up on old sites

That’s really old.

Killer personal find man! Your posts always amaze me!
