Some of Marylands first settlers were Catholic but its founders welcomed Protestants and I believe they in fact comprised the majority of the earliest settlers. There were Virginians already settled on Kent Island at the founding of the Maryland colony and this led to a lot of conflict in Marylands earliest beginnings. Hard to say how this got in this field as I dont think there were many Catholics in Maryland especially on the Eastern Shore but your right definitely more around here than elsewhere in the coloniesYou're in the right geographic area for such a find; it certainly be 18th century, even early 18th century. Such an early find would be rare in New England and other parts of the East Coast. Early Protestant beliefs included the prohibition of religious images - no stained glass windows to be found in the old meetings houses for sure. But Maryland was settled by Catholics who venerated such relics and other religious objects. Not trying to start a religious discussion - just noting some colonial history that may relate to this very cool find. Congrats.
