Today was just one of those days... I left work and I was off to find somewhere to detect some metal!! The very first place I stopped, I got permission almost immediately! I have been driving by this house since I can remember. (He used to have a fastback mustang in the one shed years ago too) He told me that he had an old whites detector but could never find much more than horse shoes. He also said that his friend found a couple Indian head cents there too, about 20+ years ago... So you can guess, I'm really getting the itch to detect. I head back to my car, and I couldn't believe it, I didn't bring any clothes to change into! So, I just figured khakis and a plaid chaps button down long sleeve shirt would have to do... Haha...
I switched out the Storm coil and put on the 5x8 coil, and I was off. Tons of signals, mostly iron grunts and other tones is the 40s. First decent signal, too high to be an Indian, too low to be a silver dime... Yep, sure enough, stinkin' Linkin'. Oh well... Next signal was a 1950 wheat. Ok, that's an improvement... Some more junk digs and then I get a nice signal right in the Indian head cent range... Nope, but it's something I like just as much, a 1956 dog tag license! Awesome...
More junk signs, then I get a grunty high tone... I circle it like a turkey vulture... Eh, it's deep, might as well check it out. 6-7" down, I get a signal with my pro pointer, there's my signal, a nice fat nail! Bummer. But I scan the hole, the high tone is still there!! Pro pointer back in the hole and Pow... A small reeded edge! I flip it out and I can see the back... It's either a barber or a SEATED?? Can't see anything on the front, so I didn't know till I got home. Here's pictures before I rinsed it off at home...

And here are the pictures after I cleaned it up... I was amazed at the condition of this coin. I was guessing it to be a teens age Barber, but I was really happy to see a 1900 date!!

Check it out... It's tough to photograph, but it's so crisp, there's still 'mint luster'... (I tried to capture it in the one picture)

I continued to hunt, and got a pile of memorial cents and then another signal, deeper than the others, but the same number as a Zincoln... I chose to dig it because it was deeper, never know if it's a cool button or something.
Dang it, just a wheatie... But I couldn't see the date, just the reverse, and it looked pretty sharp, so I figured it would be another 50's wheat...
Boy... I sure an glad I was wrong about that one!! I finally dug myself a decent (and first) 1909 wheat cent! I'm very happy to have this coin, been on my list for a while, and it's nice to see it isn't worn out... But it sure is patina'd...

Thanks for checking out my finds from today, hope everyone enjoys checking them out! This permission is for about 150 acres of fields that have been farmed since the 1840's... Hope to have a little bit of luck when I get to the fields...
