1900 Morgan 0 error ?

1900 Morgan 0 overall good condition except last 0 in date Photo on 12-26-18 at 1.48 PM.webp it looks smashed could this have been done at the mint or just an unlucky strike while in circulation ? This is my first post so please forgive any errors on my part . thanks, Tom

No found in old tin full of coins in Grand pa's attic .
 

I dug a 1900 O Morgan dollar on 4-15-2018! Back to the thread....
 

I say grease , if it was smashed there would be more damage to the surrounding areas also, with some depressions.
 

Fine coin, no matter how it was found.
The damage seems to be directly associated with a weak strike at the mint...?
That deserves further investigation - could be very valuable...!
 

I think it is damage, could be a combination of a grease filled die and damage, but the damage is definitely there. Either way no real value there.
 

The biggest value is that most 1900 morgans were melted in the Pittman act of 1918 and tens of thousands more melted since! Every Morgan silver dollar you have is a gift from the coin gods!!
I've always thought the peace dollars were prettier and a better design but an old Morgan is hard to beat for pure awesomeness.
