1904 S Error Indian Head Penny

Went out for an afternoon hunt. Found several indians, wheats, and silvers. I found a 1904 Indian at 5 inches. After cleaning the coin, I noticed several errors on the face of the Indian. There is a S on the cheek of the Indian. The S is similar to a S mint mark on a Barber dime. The coin is in good shape and was probably lost between 1904 and 1920. The S is raised off of the cheek. I posted in today's finds, where there are better pictures. Here are some close ups.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Wow, is that ever an odd one. I couldn't find anything similar on Ebay. Maybe a counter-stamp? Is the "S" raised or sunk into the coin? If you can't find answers here then I would suggest this site .. Coin Collecting - CoinTalk.com - Home ... I agree with the counterstamp idea. I have a buffalo that is similar.

The S is definitely raised.

This is the first coin that I have clearly seen an error. The S doesn't appear to be stamped into the coin. The height of the cheek (around the S) is the same as other VF type indians.

I would have to go with non-minting error. I would think it happened sometime after the coin made it to circulation.
