One of my family's friends is a grown man who collects coins. Neither of his children (who are both teenagers) are interested in coins, so he has given a lot of his collection to me. One of his generous gifts was a huge bag of hundreds of loose Wheaties. I picked out some of the nicer ones and put them in 2x2's, then sorted all the others into plastic tubes of 50 by decades. As I was finishing up the last of the coins, I saw a 1909, and, turning it over, saw V.D.B on the other side! It is in kinda rough condition, but was hoping someone could help me out a little on the value.

Would you consider this penny fine? What condition do u think it is in?

Maybe this pic of the wheat penny grading system will help.. Also don't clean it. Leave the corrosion on the back of the coin. If you clean it, you may take the wheat lines off the wheat ears.. It looks about 12-16 bucks on eBay before fees.. Hope this helps.. I'm a wheat penny fanatic!

Thanks. I do own a Red Book, but just wanted some other opinions on the grade! Pretty happy about the value!

That coin has already been clumsily cleaned. Do the others look similar?

No. None of them have any patina left besides a few, they at all good to fine. How can you tell it has been cleaned?

Dihren, coppers age darker overall. The one you showed has been treated harshly either by chemicals or scrubbing.

Yah I was afraid that it looked scrubbed. there seemed to be little lines that were lighter than the rest of the coin. Oh well. Thanks everyone for all their input.
