Cool on the VDB :icon_thumright:

If you're going to find a wheat penny, that's a good one to find. Nice find. I found 2 1909s.... neither was a VDB.

I was just gonna post the same thing!, i also found 2 1909s and that darn vdb is alluding me..........i will find one eventually!

Great find on the penny. I wonder if the wheel was a "traveler?" A traveler was used to measure the circumference of a wagon or buggy wheel, so the black smith could cut the iron for the tire the right length. If the wheel is grooved then it is probably part of a pulley, if not, then possibly a traveler. Here are a couple of pictures. There are all sorts of different types and styles.

I started detecting at age 12 - 1975
back then - most TH'ers were coinshooters
I of course started coin collecting from detecting
one of the coins I wanted to get as a kid was a VDB
it took few years and got my 1st one in 1978 - so I was able to scratch that coin
off my list - in 1979 I got 4 more of them - 2 were beautiful green and in like EF shape
I think I have a glass jar in my cellar with old wheats from my early days of hunting
theyre probably in there still

Nice finds gforce.

It's is definitely a pulley. On the VDB I'm very happy having found it. Of course I would have been happier if it was an S.
