1909 Wheat Cent Cuff Link & Two Indians
Things have definitely cooled off for me, since the old woods site is just about hunted out. I know a site is never completely hunted out, but this is one just about done. The last few times there, I can barely come up with a decent or promising signal. Anyway, I'm hitting a new woods site that's not too far from the old site. Up until today, I've only found some flat buttons, a sterling thimble and one Indian Head Cent. Today I found two Indian Head pennies, I can't read the dates yet, since I haven't clean them, but one is a fat Indian (1859-1863?). I also found a 1909 Wheat Cent cuff link. At first I thought the clear circular piece that covers the cent was glass, but when I got it home I discovered that it's plastic. Amazingly the plastic protected the penny and it's in outstanding condition. Though the cuff link looks like it's been in the ground a long time, my guess is that it dates from after the 1920s due to the use of plastic in it's construction. Does anybody have any idea as to when they first started using clear plastic?
