So my boy comes home from work tonight and says look what I found in change. (He works at a gas station part time while going to school) my jaw about hit the floor... He finds about a dozen wheats every week and a couple silvers a month.

The spacing between the 9 and the second 1 does look funky - you should have it authenticated (should have no VDB on the shoulder)

I thought that myself. if you do an image search of 14-D's, the date on all of them appears more uniform. Hope it's real though!

Yeah I thought about it being a fake for a minute too but who would put it back into circulation? It's got some green gunk on the side of the D. I just shot a quick pic before we left for a Christmas party, looks good under a loop but I'm no coin expert.

From this photo I can see a halo of a 4 under the 1. My opinion its altered.

I will take some through the loop if I can get it to show up. I'm at a party tonight so I will try it when I can get a chance. I would love to know if it's real. If it's fake it only cost him a penny. I did take the pic at a funky angle because the shadow of the phone kept getting in the way.

Interesting I'm reading this. Was at my coin guys shop today and he likes testing me out/teaching me things. Asked me to grade a 14d I looked at it, told him that date looks funny, but I gave it a ef-40 grade..then he threw it at the wall! Lol I got schooled on how to tell a altered 14d. Here's to hoping yours is legit. I'd agree with the others that its a altered 44d.

Definitely a shaved 44-D. The gap between the 9 and 1 is the giveaway. It would have been a heart stopper if I found it.
