There used to be a product like that for silver, but it no longer exists.

I have dug several 1916 mercs, with some too worn to distinguish mm, and they have left me wondering.

What was the name of the product? I may have to just wonder on this one.

I don't know, but heard about it. Google turns up nothing. There are extractors that could bring up the date, but would damage the coin and very possibly your skin (industrial products).

For nickels, it is nick-o-date. Works wonders, and if the date is not readable anyway, then it's not like you are ruining the "value" of the coin, as a dateless buffalo isn't worth much anyway.

One bottle of nick-o-date works for about ... 17 million nickels. (it will literally last a lifetime!)

The OP inquired about silver.

Well, the date is visible, but the mint mark is in the worn area. So it is def a 1916, but the wear has me wondering about the mint.
if it were mine, i would post a pic, also why if there was an easy solution i would tell him. If its too much trouble, that's his ordeal.

Be wAry of any highly worn reverses on 16 d's. there are more fakes than real coins, and they are often worn down to cover the more obvious signs of manipulation.

Yeah, I saw that when looking em up. Ppl taking advantage of the high wear of the backside. If only the mint mark were closer to the center.
