I hit my weekend site this morning, and along with two of the crustiest copper cents I have ever seen, found this 1919S Merc.

I was sure that this must be a key date, because I have found a 1919D quarter and it was quite valuable.

But no such luck, these are common.

But, always happy to find silver. Three this weekend, including yesterday's key date Barber half. No complaints.

Ground was mean to that dime....but great that you found it!
 

Was that dime dug up on the beach or in the dirt? It looks like the ones I dig up from the beach. Nice find!
 

This field is very close to Puget Sound. At certain times of the year it is basically underwater. All the coins have corrosion problems.


Look at my post from yesterday. All my finds from there have various amounts of gunk on them.

It is not much of an issue with common coins like this, but check out yesterdays Barber half.

Great shape, key date, but the corrosion, and requisite cleaning, will take the grade down in value from thousands to a few hundred.
