I'm a newbie (I've only been out a few times) so this is the oldest coin I've found so far. I need to clean it up. I found it in a vacant lot next to an old abandoned school.

Nice. You don't want to clean it too much or you will ruin the lovely old look. I would give it a scrub with soap and a toothbrush then shine it up with beeswax and it will look great.
