Hello all.I got out to an old foundation site today for a bit.First i found an 1860 ? Indianhead that's in rough shape. Then i got a couple of "tokens" One looks to be a 1921 Chuffeur's licence. It has the state seal and reads Licenced-1921-chauffeur and has the Num.307625 and New York.A couple of years ago i found an ID tag from an early Cadillac at this site,so it's kinda cool that i also found the licence. The Dewey token/medal thingamabob Has the bust of Gen.Dewey and reads New York welcomes the hero 1899 and some smaller letters that look like SF ?? .On the other side it has a ship and it reads Dewey's flagship returned to New York Sept.28 1899 Olympia and some small letters that i cant make out.

I have been using my minelab x-70 at some of my "Hunted out" junk infested sites and i think I'm liking the ole x-70.

Rich, thanks i was going to cheak ebay, wish mine was that nice !
Evelution, thanks i always like finding the indians so i can hopfully fill my whitman folder,it's about 3/4 full so far.I just filled the 1860 spot a couple of days ago with a better 1860 that i found at the same site.

I love that Dewey medal, btw the Olympia, still exists and is berthed Philly.

Very cool finds. That Dewey token is great....Lot of history there.

Thanks Tom & Christy,I'm going to give it a quick electrolysis dip here shortly.I think it'll clean up nice. ;D

Very cool finds.

Dewey was, however, an Admiral, not a General.

Keep 'em coming!

oop's ! :D Thanks ! ;D

Chauffeur's Licenses are cool finds!!!

I've only found 2 of them in Michigan. The Dewey Medal's pretty cool too, it looks like there was more to it though. I think the USS Olympia, which was his flagship during the Battle of Manila Bay, is preserved and on display somewhere. Congrats and here's a pic of one of my Michigan Chauffeur licenses that I happen to still have on my flash drive. I found it when I was home on leave in 2005 during my last deployment to Iraq. This deployment I'll be going home on leave in January so I don't expect to do much detecting. Congrats on the cool finds!!!

HH,
SgtSki

Hi Sarge,That is a sweet one you found.Stay safe and have a good one ! ;D

Neat finds guys, any chance on finding who the owner was? A letter to state archives might turn something up. That is the neatest thing about this hobby. Finding ties to someone from another time. Like six degreees of separation in a fourth dimension.

I don't know what kind of luck Kieser would have in NY. But I tried in Michigan with a 1934 Chauffeur License and I was told that they only maintained files for like 25 years (or something like that, I forget). Maybe Kieser will have more luck with the NY one.

You got that right Mojo ! To be able to put a name to a person that once held something you have found is more rewarding to me than the object found.Well other than a gold coin mabey ! :D
I thought of attempting to find who it belonged to,but i doubt it would still be on file. But i do know the names of the people that used to live there. There are two old graves in the woods across the street from this site.I posted the info. from the stones on the web and found an ancestor to the people buried there. They asked me to take photos,so i sent them some. ;D
There is another site about a 1/4 mile up the road were i used to find some nice stuff from the 1700's-1830's.One of the things I found were several "chicken Colonel" buttons.I researched the site and found that it was the homesite of the Colonel who was the leader of the local militia. ;D
