Detector(s) used
ETRAC BABY
Afternoon y'all. Got out today with Greg and Dave (both Tnetters) here in Northwest Indiana. Greg got a new etrac and he let me try it out at an old park here in the area. It was set up with 4 tones and with a few pointers from both Dave and Greg I went hunting. I had dug a wheatie and a few clad coins when I get a high tone with 12/46 on the screen near a tree. It was bouncy and at about 6 inches. Greg came over and said I had a quarter. I dug slowly as I didnt know what the heck it would be and at about 6 inches standing on end was a reeded edge. I slowly pulled it out and there she was, a 1924D SLQ. I was one happy camper. I havent found a SLQ or a barber so that just made my week, and with a borrowed detector at that. I let Greg carry it for a while since it was his detector but took it back when it was time to leave. LOL. He keeps calling me a pirate and I dont understand why. :icon_pirat: Thanks for reading. TMAN...

Nice job, not only a dated SLQ, but one with a legitimate value of $100+ if unscratched and the back is as good as the front. With better pictures I can be more precise. I use the grey sheet for pricing, which is the most accurate out there.

Tman,

Nice SLQ! You don't get them that nice very often. I have a couple and they are worn beyond description. Looks like you guys have a good spot to hunt over there. So...when are you picking up an E-Trac? lol...

Take care...

Joe

looks like a great site to hunt. HH

As I was told before: back off just a bit in macro mode and she'll clear right up! She looks real purdy tho' great find

Nice find! Also nice of Greg to lend you his machine. Bet he won't do THAT again LOL !

VERY nice shape!

Steve

That is a beautiful one, :o still on my wish list. :-\ I hope mine will look like that.... :o

Keep @ it and HH!!

WOW, that looks mint new! One of our most beautiful coins, IMHO, and one of the hardest to find it seems with any detail. Congrats on that fine quarter...

Take care...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I was stoked when I pulled it out of the ground. This is really only my 4th real good find since I started back hunting in 2004. I found a clad coin cache in L.A. an 1893 10 cent centimini from Italy here in Indiana and an 1850 era gold ring. This rates up there with the antique ring. When I first saw it, it was on edge. I figured a dime since this park gets hunted pretty good. I looked at it through a loop and there are some what I would call surface scratches from handling but no real hard marks. On the front you can still see the dots on the shield, the covering over the right breast and her eye nose and mouth. Also you can see what I would describe as boxes on either side of her. On the back you can see the feathers pretty well, the eagles face and some of the stars still have their raised points in the middle. I dont know how to grade coins but if someone could give a better idea with that description I would appreciate it. TMAN...

it looks to be in beautiful shape but the pic is a bit blurry. can you scan it and post a pic of the scan? i sure would like to see the detail on that one! very nice!

Can't get any better.

Hey Tman, try taking a better pic of that beauty! Congrats again on that awesome fine and believe me guys that coin is in great conditions!! BTW, you are a Pirate!! :icon_pirat:

LOL - Awesome job bud!!!! Hey TMan, can I barrow your F75? I already barrowed Gregs XLT and found my first Indian Head cent with it. We could start a detector barrowing club... LOL

Sure I see how it is, when I hunt with you guys I get hit by a beer bottle and chased out of town by cops, when I don't hunt with you, you guys find the good stuff!!! :tongue3:

Again great job, from your description of all of the details it sounds like it would be "Extra Fine" condition+

E-Trac's borrowers fee is 50% of all finds! :tongue3:
