Hello all,

Merry Christmas! I have a question on a class ring I found. It's from 1940, has a C on the front and on the inside the only inscription is "Dura (Diamond w/ J inside it) Tone". From my simple research I've found that it's a 1940 Jostens Duratone class ring but it seems like there are arguments as to what Duratone actually means. Has anyone ever found a ring like this and if so, do you know what karat it is, is it 10k? It looks and feels like Gold, has no tarnish whatsoever, but I haven't been able to weigh it, it's a womens ring, maybe size 6?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you all!

i'm pretty sure those were a gold/silver mix. i would get an acid test done on it to determine karat level. great find!

That's a really nice ring....:icon_thumright:

I'm no expert but believe it is a mix of gold and some cheaper metal. Unfortunately not considered very valuable. Here is a small mention of Jostens duratone in an article on melt values and explanations of karats and metals that gold are mixed with. It is a neat find nonetheless :-)

It's a very pretty ring, no matter what the metal is. Nice find.

Nice big bling bling.:icon_thumleft:

It is a very nice find and I certainly hope that you previous post didn't come across in a manner that I was degrading your find. I was only trying to pass along some info about it. Trust me I would be thrilled finding that ring. Happy Holidays, Abe :-)

My previous post, sorry

I'm going to presume that it is 10k... Its common practice to have class rings in 10k.

Great find, Keep @ it and HH !!

Awesome find..Congrats.

Chances are slim that you would ever find the owner but a search might turn up a descendant and that would be awesome.Might be an enjoyable quest for you. Great find and I am happy, happy, happy for you!

Nice find for sure. I'm still looking for my first class ring.
Congrats,
MM

Jostens made Class Ring's were / are 10K - They usally have initials on the sides and a year. I found and returned a 1943 ring last year. The big letter willl be the school, start your search by looking for towns near the "find" site that start with the letter "C".

Congrats on the gold ring, beautiful old style!
