"1941-1945" THE PUBLIC BAR BATTLEFIELD [GREATEST BATTLE OF ALL] LOL !!!!!!

HI everyone,The 11 of Nov here is Rememberance Day,rather than go on about the facts of war time Australia.I,m going to tell the story about the aussie and yanks troops rivary at the local pub [public bar]. between 1941 and 1945, thousands of american servicemen spent leave from the Pacific War here. Most took the time for some good times [gals, beer and a good laugh].The American servicemen had smarter uniforms and talked with amazing accents, this infatuated the young aussie girls.Just one problem aussie troops where very protective of their women and they didn,t like sharing beer either. This all spells trouble. Both parties where friends and allies in the real war but not at the local on Saturday night. The evening was generaly pretty tame for the first couple of hours but quickly decayed into a all in punch up.The Allied Command where aware of this problem but never had enough military police to control these fights. After a few hours of getting totally destroyed, the mood would change and the simple miss-said remark or the wrong look and the spilling of some-ones drink would be the start of trouble.Neither side used weapons just a whole lot of punches and a lot of bad language. These sort of punch ons where common and i don,t think anyone side won."Pigs Arse we did,Giv the Seppos[yanks]a good punch in the chops" ;D ;D ;D

Today i went to the old show grounds and spent a few hours swinging and digging. The site was used as a training camp during the WW1 and WW2
I found 2 aussie pennies [1915 191!],2 Lee Enfield .303 shells ,ww 2 aussie airforce button, and 2 interesting one piece buttons which i have not yet had a chance to i.d and brass machine id plate.

tinpan, anyone want to come too the local with tin ;D ;D ;D

Nice finds as usual tinpan. All I got today was a weary dunlop 50c-hope to post it to show them yanks later.

Your story reminds me of the battle of Brisbane where basically the whole town exploded into an all in brawl! Unfortunataly there were casulaties in that case though.

Have fun mate,

Nice finds, by the way, and a cool story.

Here's a little joke from down under:

A koala was sitting in a tree one day smoking some....uh....herb and laughing to himself when this little lizard walks over to the tree and says, "Hey. Whatcha doin'?"

"Well," said the koala, "I was just having a little...uhh...herb."

"That looks like fun," the little lizard said. "Can I try it?"

"Sure you can, c'mon up!"

So the little lizard and the koala sat around for a while toking on some...uhh...herb. They talked about the good old days, life in general, and told jokes about the other woodland animals.

After a bit the little lizard got really really thirsty and told the koala that he was going down the river to get a drink.

"Okay little buddy," the koala drawled, "you be really careful down there. You could fall in and drown."

"I'll be back in a bit," and with that he waved and was on his way.

He staggered and stummbled and tripped and fell his way to to the river. He laughed all the way. When he got there he started to drink, but, lost his balance and fell in. During his laughter he realized he was drowning and that he couldn't swim. An alligator heard his laughter and came to save him. Once safely upon the bank the alligator asked what he was laughing so heartily at. The little lizard explain the story of the smoking koala. The alligator said he had to see this for himself.

As the alligator walked into the clearing the koala sat up straight and his eyes went wide as saucers. He couldn't believe what he saw. "Jeez man!! Just how much water DID you drink?!"
