1965 Mattel GT switch N Go

I got this for $1. Couldn’t resist. With a good battery, it still runs. Motor shaft adaptor spins left-rear tire. It’s called a slot car on-line. I’m guessing mine has pcs. missing. Some I’ve seen show decals, chrome mirrors, chrome headlights.

I used to build and race slot cars, but all the tracks I am familiar with were 120V. One of my cars utilized a turntable motor. Never seen a battery powered slot car before, but that way cool an I would have splurged on that one, too.

When I was around nine years old we moved to Ankeny Iowa and there was a hobby shop called Toy Villa. They had a big HO slot car track that me and my brother would go up after dinner, to run our cars. I had a collection of various cars and you could pick up a verity of accessories to modify your cars, such as wider silicone tires mounted on little spun aluminum wheels that would really hug the track. You would also replace the oem motor brushes with ones made of silver. That was a fun place to go during those dark nights of winter for a lot of us kids back then.

Sounds like a great place. I remember slot cars being very popular in the mid 20th century. Man, that sounds like a long time ago, worded that way!
