Hi everyone.

The weight on this half is 11.21g
The specific gravity is 9.18

Is it fake or just a little abnormal?

It looks ok to me. Not hollow like a trick coin, for sure. Weight is in the acceptable range for one of those.

A 68 Kennedy half is 40% silver. Next year of 69 was the last of the 40% silver circulation coins. After that they were all clad. Cool find.

i agree the weight is within tolerance but the SG looks low.

Smoky is right. Weight is within acceptable range. I have personally found variations up to 15% +/- of the official 11.50 grams.

Time for more coffee.

Good to know….thanks so much.

'65-70 40% halves are clad too, (as are the silver clad proofs in later years) just silver/copper clad, whereas the '71-up business strikes are nickel/copper clad.

Why would someone fake a
40% half dollar?

If I were to fake a coin in mass quantities I would choose one that would fly under the radar. Kinda like the Henning nickel.
