Does anybody else here keep their eyes open for a 1983 copper penny. I heard a rummor that in 1983 they had a few sheets of copper left and used them up with the 1983 cent. Has anybody else heard of this or found one? It sure would be fun to have one of them. The best way to find out if it is copper is to flip it. If it rings it is most likely copper, if it makes a thud it is zinc.

Ive heard and most people I know who look for them use an electronic scale.

The only foolproof way to check for a copper is to check its weight. But it sure is fun to flip 'em. I've found that the metal value of a coin is proportional to how fun it is to flip --- silver just has that sound to it, copper sort of does, zinc doesn't. A Ryedale sorter would work great for quickly checking large quantities of cents. Anyone have one of those? Good luck with the 83's! That's a great coin to search for!

Davy: The 1983 Copper/Zinc weighs 2.5g. The 1983 Copper would weigh 3.11g. Hope you find one, or two, or?
