19th regiment of foot rev war cufflink and War of 1812 infantry button

Hey y'all. Went out for a quick hunt after work at a rev war landing site near Charleston, SC today. Pulled two mystery pewter buttons. One reads IRINA or IPANA (not sure), the other has a design I'm still waiting to reveal itself, however a single star is clearly visible. On the way back to the truck, got a signal and thought I pulled a small part of a fishing lure or part of an earring. ALMOST tossed it aside!! When I got it home I saw "19" inscribed. VMIAIRPWR07 has pulled a 19th regiment of foot button at the same site. I'm pretty certain their from the same regiment. This would be my first military uniform piece so I'm pretty stoked. Enjoy and feel free to weigh in if you may know more about these buttons!

Nice stuff! I hunt in sc also. Grew up in west ashley. Still lookin for a rev war button. Congrats

That last mystery button is interesting. Seems like I've seen something like it before--maybe Spanish Colonial??

Ya know the more I research and look at it, I'm thinking the small mystery button is actually a cap from a very early tube of toothpaste called Ipana. Circa 1920s maybe.

Very well might be. I was going to ask for better pictures including the back, because the face seems to have some pretty sharp detail and seems like an odd thing for a 200 year old pewter button. And now that I know it has no shank, or a sign of one, I'm guessing there's no line across the center from being cast. Yeah I think you likely have it.

Nice finds! Always like seeing relics dug in the great state of South Carolina (God's country)! Congrats

Very cool button, and Ipana was delicious.
Congrats on that pc. of military history!

Thanks to vmiairpwr, the button is all clean and sealed in wax. Here's the finished product...
