My partners and I hit a recently harvested field today for over 4 hours. I found my first silver with the X5 It appears to be a 1807 Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle dime. It's in rough shape but you can make out the date. The back shows more detail. It's a touch smaller than a nickel. Were dimes bigger in 1807? Also found what I think is a copper that has no detail at all and worn thin. It was kinda tough swinging through the stubble but we managed. My buddy George found a Liberty nickel but I did'nt get the date. I thought I had a indianhead only to find out it's a 1959 stinkin' Lincoln. Can't wait til next Sunday to hit another field. Sorry about the crappy scans. My scanner bites.

farm fields are so much more rewarding then parks(JMO)
just curious how you had your machine set up (disc/sens/threshold/MGB/FGB)
depending on the area
ill run mine a hair below 4
fixed most times/still playing with the manual ground balance its a little tricky
ill run the sens full 8(esp. in chaff from cornfields)
when i hit a "pocket of nails"
they sound like ticks and pops
ill turn the sens down to 3 and slowly work threw the nails
medium sized surface rusty iron(large square nails, etc) goes "thuck"
most times from the sound if you look down youll see it
some smaller lead peices sound like a zinc penny
shell casings sometimes hit great then you dig them and move them around
then the signal chops up(the coil starts seeing around the inside of the rim)
large iron will sound so so choppy good ,choppy bad
its a one tone machine but it will RAMP good signals
coins and buttons will "BANG" you'll be able to after a while tell what it is
your brain will after a while start to learn
get a DD dump that "spider coil" it separates out targets way better
feel free to ask i will tell ;)
I was running 2 and almost 9 on fixed GB. I try to dig most everything except iron when in the fields. I ran on this disc to help weed out the hot rocks. The dime was found in the area where a house once was. I was using both target checks and when I got a signal that responded on both I would get excited. As far as the DD coil I don't think target separation is a big factor in the fields. Maybe in trashy parks. I might pick up the 7" coil for that.
Take care, Mike

I have a field i hunt were the farmers knocked all the stalks down by running over them with there tractor while spreading liquid cow manure ! :P :P ;D It did help alot though. :D Best of luck and i hope you find more once the stalk's are down. You have given me hope ! ;D

Thanks to all for the congrats. It's definitely one of my best coin finds. Can't wait to get back out there. Gonna be a long week waiting. Good luck in your diggings.

Hey Mike,

First of all nice digs! What's that? The 2nd time out with your new MD??? :) Curious to know what's on the other side of the Limoges fragment... any pattern? That stuff goes back to the 18th and 19th century.
