A lot of soybean fields are being harvested in my area so its back to hitting the old home sites! I was about ready to give up when I got a 88 on the deus II and was hoping it wasn't going to be trash, then out pops the 1848o half dime. Its a date that I haven't found yet. This makes number 22 seated and 9 caped bust half dimes that I've found since I started detecting.

What a beautiful coin! It's always a treat when a questionable signal turns out to be something great. Congratulations. BTW-22 seated coins and 9 capped bust coins is a pretty remarkable total. How many years have you been out there detecting?

15 plus years!! Hunt mainly old homesteads in the county that I live.

These half dimes look to be similar small size to Canadian 5 cent silvers. I have found several of the Canadian ones and have marveled at how small they are and how well the detector picks them up. I have speculated that they slipped from their owners because they were so small and then were not found because either the owner was not aware of losing them or could not find such a small coin if he tried. Metal detectors changed that!
