What a morning! I was 3 hours north of home detecting for the second day on a very old permission site. I found a few Wheaties at the start. About an hour and a half into the hunt I got a very sweet signal. I dug a plug, dropped in the pin pointer, and knew whatever it was was deeper. And then it happened. My 1st pre-1900 coin, a seated liberty dime from 1874. What a great feeling. My hands were actually shaking as I cleaned it off. I noticed that someone apparently made a necklace out of it as there’s a hole in it. Fine by me. It’s mine now! The ride home was nothing but smiles.

nice i hope to get sat down one day

Your first pre 1900 coin is a seated dime. Well done! My first several/many pre 1900 coins were all indian head cents or V nickels. I found about 12 barber dimes all in the 1900's before I finally found one pre 1900. Then, finally! last Thanksgiving day I got onto some old ground and found a 1883 seated dime. My first and only seated anything.
Congratulations and may there be many more to come.

Thank you!

Almost five years and zero seated coins.

I got a capped bust half dime and Spanish silvers, but no, seated

Well done sir.

What an awesome find , they sure are pretty.

My first silver coin was a Seated Dime, set the hook in deep, only found 3 other Seated since. The hole gives yours some character, very nice. Congrats!

Nice! Awesome find! :icon_thumleft: Someday I hope to join the seated club!

sometimes a misconception that coins with holes were made into jewelry
when in fact most coins with holes were done to sew into the inside of clothing
got to realize - most pants did not have pockets back then - they would sew small
coins such as 1/2 reales - 1 reales - 1/2 dimes and dimes in the inside of their vests
coats or jackets usually it would be with just a thread or two so they could easily be pulled off
when needed - nice save

Thanks for the information regarding the hole Casper. That’s very interesting. I appreciate it.

That's a beautiful coin. Very happy for you.

I've also heard that silver, having antibacterial properties, would be used to kill microbes in milk by suspending a coin by a string in it.

Congrats on your first Seated Dime. I still get excited every time I dig a Seated coin.

Sweet find, congratulations! :occasion14:

Now you can stand it up in your display case. Well done

Congrats on that great find! My first was a couple months ago in a park. It was in amazing condition and I put a nice ding in it with my lesche because the ground was really dried and hardened... thought it was prob just a clad dime. The next one was a month or two later and it was gray from salt water yet I still scratched it when I wiped the sand off it! My goal is to find one without damaging it!

Her poor face! Haha. Incredible find. I haven't been lucky enough to get one yet, hopefully sometime soon. Great job!!

Welcome to the 1800's club and finding your first seated coin. Funny how something so small can make a person feel so good. Congrats to you Mister.
