As my season nears an end due to cold weather here in Wisconsin, today I bundled up and got out, found my first 2 cent coin, so happy with it. Sometimes over winter I miss metal detecting so much I feel like digging up my basement floor and start searching. Thanks to this website I can live thru you lucky folks that get to search year round.

Thanks for the replies, went back to the site today and found another 1865 2 cent this time. Not as nice condition, strange they were only about 50 feet apart, wonder what causes condition changes? I feel lucky to find these coins in western Wisconsin. Also found this button says ____bury on the back. Is this military? Thanks for any info.
Waterbury. As in, Massachusetts; there was a huge manufacturing center there that produced two and three piece gilt buttons throughout much of the 1800s. Many, if not most, military buttons from the civil war and on were made there, with that back mark. Yours is an unusual style, but not military. Keep searching! Looks like you have a great spot that hasn’t been hit.
