2 COLONIAL COPPERS & a 1600's SILVER

we were supposed to take a drive down & hook up with merc & charlives but the impending snowstorm put a squash to any travel plans on our end.woke up at 8 am looked out the window and not a flake of snow on the ground
contiplating what to do.. I set out to go back to the CT militia button site.
i almost walked right past the site planning to spend some time at one further up.but,a little voice :tard: I guess you can say said give it another go.
This time instead of going with my usual Jewelry/beach mode on the XLT I went in relic mode bumped up the pre-amp gain and max sensitivity and started swingin.all iron sounds great in this mode and i dug a handful of it today.in a small creek bed i got a decent signal and out pops colonial silver.worn badly it's the same diameter as a one reale but the bust outline is different.can anyone help id it? ???
nabbed 2 coppers deep.one is definitely a Connecticut as i saw the AU in Auctori on the left side of obverse.the 2nd one not sure if it's a KG II? not much lettering is visible.also a tombac button.
I guess I didn't pound the snot out of this site as I thought after my last hunt and was ready to retire it.what a difference in depth using this program

Great Hunt! I guess you might have to work that place a few more times before you give it a break. Can't help you on the silver, hopefully someone can i.d. it.

Re: 2 COLONIAL COPPERS & 1 COLONIAL SILVER

have not tried to iD your silver -yet - but it looks like it is a "love" token
they used to take small silver and bend it like that as a keep sake
to remember a love - and you would keep it as good luck
or rub it when you thought of that person - that is why they end up so worn

Nice finds!

Re: 2 COLONIAL COPPERS & 1 COLONIAL SILVER

Looks like a William III Sixpence.... they dig a lot of them in the UK that were made into love tokens.

Re: 2 COLONIAL COPPERS & 1 COLONIAL SILVER

Some really nice coins Dave. I'm glad you got that hunt in. An experienced hunter like yourself knows the appropriate modes on your machine for the situation. You certainly made the right choice today. WTG, Quindy.

Both are pretty close so I'd leave final judgment for the in person inspection... which means you! ;D

Good for you to go with your 'gut feeling' and not just walk past this old uninteresting looking site!

It's only toasted in the numismatic sense, but far from it as a detecting find. That coin was most likely picked to be made into a love token because it was warn, so maybe look at it as much as a relic as a coin, but what you found is how it was intended. Had there been a lot of detail on the coin 200 or so years ago chances are it wouldn't have taken the same path and you would not have found it. It's all how you look at it!

Re: 2 COLONIAL COPPERS & a 1600's SILVER

Like the others have said, definitely a love token. Here is one I found Southwestern PA at site where British troops camped during the French and Indian War and through the 1760s. I agree with IP that they picked the well worn six pence's, maybe because they were easier to bend.
