HEY GUYS AND GALS..

1st day out Rick novascotia and ZodiacDave came down for a hunt with me and Cousin ED to the spot where I found the most of my buttons. No one came up with a button but about 100+ targets were dug.
Dave did come up with a nice cannonball....Rick a silver coin...me a buckle ....ED a nice silver spoon.. We all had a hand full of musketballs and odds -n -ends.

2nd day Romeo-1 came down for a hunt also with me and Cousin ED. We hunted the same spot. Dug prolly 75+ targets. But they were harder to find and more junky.

Romeo came up with a nice piece of silver /bronze pot spout/old copper coin .....ED a couple more modern buttons...I had 3 old coins.....we all had a few musket balls and odds n ends.

The site has definitely taken a beating over the winter....but some finds seem to still be showing up right where I know we have trampled it many times.

Keep in mind that very experienced detectorists ...Dave/Rick/Romeo have gone over this site ..... me and Ed are still newbs...and still no buttons.

So.....dilemma is...do I leave this site for awhile and come back in a couple weeks with a new outlook on it. ??

Or do I stay pig headed and continue the search ?

These are my finds from the 2 days.

Those coins seen better days there Aqua, too bad the quarters wern't silver.
If I were you I would let that site be until next winter when it will be like hitting a brand new beach again. I would move across to the other side and further down from where we hunted. You never know when you will hit a nice pocket of goodies.

Think you are correct ZDD...

But them buttons are so nice to find..hate to give up on them ....but like you said..there is for sure some pockets of good finds on them other beaches .

The french/british armies had to put to shore somewhere down that way outta range of the cannons. Lotsa possibilities. Search is on.

If you're going there expecting to find a certain type of find, and you don't, you're just gonna be frustrated. Frustration almost never leads to good finds but rather the opposite. Try a few other places to break up the monotony.

Thanks for sharing.

Yup...think that is a plan....new places always seem to breath new life into a hunt.

Gotta get BUTTON outta my brain.

I'd agree for a few reasons, As soon as land is thawed, I'd hunt there (on land) remember next winter will be a long one too you'll appreciate having a target or two left for when you can't dig anywhere else. (more reasons too)

I think WhadIfind makes a good point, you did find a few good buttons, but expecting one might just cause frustration, and maybe 20 more trips will get you none, That's why it's called hunting...not gathering.

But I want to be a "hunter gatherer" hehe.... why not best of both worlds...????????????

By the looks of your collection your a gatherer !!!!!!!!!!

But ya ...time for new ground.

Iron Patch Curse is what I,ll call it ...he said this would happen !!!

In a way - YES.To be really successful you have to keep hunting out new sites to replace the ones that are getting low. You never forget or give up on them, only collect a few more. Because when your options are limited by any number of factors, you still have plenty on the list to go back & try.

Correct you are !

I been so enamored with this site that I kinda forgot to look elsewhere....there is miles and miles of shoreline to hunt but not everywhere is good....no different than land I guess.

Gotta find them pockets of finds..guess there is no other way other than to put in the time to look.

Ground is still froze solid and -11 his morning....giving 12 inches of snow for wednesday...... so the shore it will be for another week or 2.

You'll deal with that same question for the years to come. These days when we find a good site, especially when it gives up stuff like that, we beat it very quiet. Back a decade or so, when we could more easily find sites, we'd get most but definitely not all, and just save the 2nd trip for the odd day where things weren't going well and we needed somewhere to go. Another question that will come up a lot is how much time and effort will you spend looking for a new site vs hunting somewhere you've been before where you know you'd at least be digging some targets. I personally would rather roll the dice looking for a new spot with the possibility of going home with nothing, but there's many would rather be digging a bit using the philosophy at least if you're digging you have a chance. But there's some days where you just run out of ideas and stop by an old favorite hoping to get lucky and save the day. That shore site is the perfect type of place for that, because there has been many single target day-makers so far.

We'll if there's lots more shore to detect, personally I would look for a new site and fall back on that one if need be...hell the fields aren't open there yet and if you are limited on sites, that's your answer...

Well that is exactly what I did today.....decided try a couple new shore sites.

Went alone as Cousin ED thought it was too cold...which really it was...-11c.

Had to find somewhere outta the wind as it was outta the northwest...too cold with that on ya.

1ST spot you could tell there had been activity years ago as there was stakes in the bank extending out half way to low water .....however things were very quiet..found 4 musket balls... not even any iron or trash.

2nd spot I went back to where I found the cannonballs.....was even quieter..2 musket balls.

Search will continue tomo and wednesday I willl have the snowblower out..giving 12 inches of snow. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Won,t be easy finding another sweet spot on the shore but do have a few ideas.

yup--the search is on...today was a bust run on 2 sites.

But outta 30 miles of shore line that is huntable there has to be some good stuff.

Dang Aqua! You have such a good spot! I LOVE all the musket balls you keep finding! They're so cool!

Another way to look at it is 2 days, 4 guys one day, 3 another, for over 32 man-hours.

Not one button, not even a plain flat, a couple of coins yes, but not really a keeper among them.

If that was just one person, it would be 4 whole days without a keeper button or a coin. If I spent 4 days on a site without a keeper I would certainly be looking for greener pastures.

So as stated before when land thaws I would hunt there, and save the winter grounds for when one can't dig anywhere else, and has no choice.

That said, there is no doubt another find there, I'd probably go back myself, just not anytime soon.

Nice variety there:icon_thumleft:
I like mixing up spots on a regular basis..
