Howdy all,
Although I haven't been able to hunt as much as previous years, I still manage my share of the loot. Yesterday I was able to hunt for an hour at a new football field, and came away with a small sterling and turquoise ring. This particular field has very few targets but I believe its a diamond in the rough. Most of the targets in this field are mid and lower signals which means lots of nickels, and the possibility of gold. All of which are hidden among a healthy dose of can slaw. I figure its been cherry picked before for the high tones, due to the lack of quarters and dimes. There are still a few there but I get 5 nickels to every Lincoln, and 10 nickels to every dime. Combined yesterday and today I have only managed 3 quarters. Still I can't complain.
Today I spent 2 hours back at this field and came away wit 2 keepers. First was the gold ring. It wasn't deep at maybe 2 inches. It looks older and has no mark at all. I can make out where it was sized and figure maybe the marking wore off over time. It acid tested at 10k and weighs 2.8 grams. Looks like 2 small rubies and maybe a diamond. The cut on all 3 stones appears really crude. Still gold is gold. Next was the Sterling cross with several garnets mounted in the face. When I first uncovered the target I saw only the cheap chain. I couldn't grasp how that cruddy little chain sounded so good. After re scanning the hole twice with the pro-pointer I saw why. Although the chain was junk, the cross clasp is clearly stamped .925. I am gonna head back tommorrow with Detectorfreak and see what else is hiding there. Luck in the hunt.
