Doing a penny dump with my friend coltdavis(he scored some silver today), and i asked if they had any old bills. The teller pulls out 4 bills and asked if i would want these, i quickly grabbed the $10 bill from my wallet while trying to hold back my smile. I had just purchased my first red seal bills and silver certificates! WOOT WOOT :icon_king: one of the $2 red seals is also a star note! HH everyone

with everyone hurting for cash, i'm sure there is lots of interesting things in circulation now. will keep my eyes open.

EXCELLENT......The star notes are worth $$ Very nice!

Nice finds  at one time you could take a silver certificate into a bank and redeem it for silver but not any more. That's back when money was actually real and backed up with something. Now days they just print it and there's nothing at all backing it.

the 1928 $2 with the red seal on the left is worth good money......i have a few and saw on ebay where one sold for around $90

Not being a currency collector, could someone explain the significance of the star?

Nice score, BTW!

Hey Neil, I believe the star means that it was a replacement for the original bill. Maybe the original got damaged during the printing process and so they made the replacement with the stars. Hope that helps Buddy...jgas

also some notes are purposely removed from circulation to be tested.....quality control i guess, and then are replaced with the original serial #, and a star instead of a letter, to indicate that it was a replacemet bill. star notes generally aren't worth much more than face unless you have an extremely low #(00000075) or has a very collectable #. such as a mirror or radar (same #'s front to back as back to front) ladder dollars (12345678 or 87654321) there are many more but i'm drawing a blank.....check ebay...they have loads of examples
