2 Large Cents in one hunt! (Scarce 1820 & 1845) Nice way to start the year.
Me and my buddy Neil went to our honey hole yesterday. It was extremely wet and muddy from all the snow melting. It was a beautiful day and nearly 70 degrees. The wet ground and comfortable weather made for a perfect metal detecting hunt.
Right away Neil found another pair of old silver cufflinks. Shortly after that I found a small flat button, which is very common for this area. Then Neil pulls out some kind of old copper, which turned out to be a large cent, but strange thing was is that it was low on the ferrous side of what LC's normally are. We each found a few more buttons, and the hunt continued. In some areas, when you dug a hole it immediately filled in with water, which made for a very muddy & messy hunt!
I got lucky near a tree and I got a great signal under one of the tree's large roots. I knew it was going to be a large cent (E-Trac is good at telling you this), and it was!
About 40 minutes later I was over near an area I swear I have been 100 times before... and there.... near a tree, I got another great signal with the E-Trac. Just goes to show you that your "hunted out spots" are never truly hunted out. It was shallow and an easy dig. It was really wet so the hole was filled with water right away, but thankfully I got the coin out in the first scoop.
This was my second hunt of the season. The first hunt was a big fat failure, but this hunt sure made up for it. It was GREAT to get out there at my favorite spot with Neil. I hope to get out there again real soon!
