Hi,

I visited a marshy area on the south shore of long island and found these 2 items. Does anybody think its worth looking into. I believe the possible charm is copper and it came out looking good. Absolutely no markings on it though. I origionally thought the other item was a nail but after a closer look, not sure what it is.

Thx for looking.

I think it's a good luck token that had a penny in the middle.

The bottom item is part of a fishing leader/lure. We find them all the time. The top item is most likely a part or spacer from an old reel or whatever. If you find something that is really special, you'll know it. The feeling radiates up your arm! :occasion14:

The last item is a specialty tool of some kind - like fishing net repair or something like that. Very old. I don't recognize it but someone here might.

Definitely NOT a fishing lure.

Possibly an old fish hook remover tool.

I found it odd myself. It was in deep as well. I gave it a soap wash to get rid of the smell. Also found a 2nd large copper piece that most likely came from a boat , also in great condition

Weird

Smaller than a nickle, slightly larger than a penny. The item is concave, so if flattened i guess it would be that size of the nickle.

I also posted the 2nd brass / copper boat thingy i found to show how clean it came out of the ground as wellIMG_0571.webpIMG_0572.webpIMG_0573.webp. Found it in the same general area. Wonder if it has to do with the soil / sand composition in that area.

Looks and sounds like your marsh was once maybe a small lake or pond in the past?. I'd say look that place over some more. Ya never know. Could find a gold ring to a very rare vintage fishing lure? All I can say about these finds is they're evidence of past activity. I would say that brass cleat is an older style, or so it seems to me?, as the newer ones are made of chrome plate pot metal I think.
